For university students, spring break remains a prime time for hook-ups. Canadian researchers (Maticka-Tyndale et al., 1998) surveyed university students to spot those that hoped to have intercourse through the break. Afterwards, a 2nd study revealed that a big part stated, “Mission accomplished”: 61% associated with males and 34% associated with the ladies stated they’d had sexual intercourse within 1 day of fulfilling their spring break hook-up partner. This could seem hasty, but, then, spring break is brief; vacationing pupils are horny and outbound, and liquor is numerous.
The Alcohol Connection
Katy Perry’s 2010 hit final Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) catches the spirit—and possible perils—of hooking-up:
There’s a stranger in my own bed.
There’s a pounding in my own mind.
We smell like a minibar.
DJ’s passed away in the garden.
Is it a hickey or perhaps a bruise?
Alcohol has always played a major part in casual intercourse plus it remains key to hook-ups today. A University of Illinois study unearthed that 49% of university males and 38% of females reported making love as a direct outcome of ingesting.
Canadian scientists (Fisher, 2012) asked university students about alcohol and hook-ups.
At My Hook-Up that is last Was…
- Sober: 27%
- Moderately intoxicated: 27%
- Really intoxicated: 35%
- Passing-out drunk: 9percent
